that meeting in the ladies room song on my fm player this morning - 20 after 5 this saturday a.m. - had to look up the band. the suggestively-named klymaxx. reminds one of the climax blues band - formed in staffordshire in '68...'84 for that klymaxx song...the men all pause also by them...remember nia peeples in the eighties fame tv show doing a version of the ladies room song, snapping her finger, looking intensely into the camera...meeting in the ladies room was also the name for the entire album.
i get these "how to attract women" e-mails which i like to look through sometimes. just looked up one about "secret tactics" - really nice phrase there, good title for something - tactics for getting women attracted to you. got to study those. and am also looking up results for a search on sexual sorcery. you know, just for common informational purposes, that's all. no hidden agenda here, folks!
speaking of witch - i mean, which - there's a nice interview with jason newcomb online, author of a book CALLED sexual sorcery - 21st century mage and new hermetics are two others by him. related words: red wheel weiser, and conari press. so that should be enough to get you to that location with the interview.
that klymaxx song got me to looking up nia peeples. enjoyed her on that fame show, good presence on the small screen...'61 birth in hollywood. december 10th. which would make her a...capricorn? was on the young and the restless. performed as liberace's opening act at one time - how many can make that claim? appeared in the prince raspberry beret video...which i think is not online, due to the peerless purple one pulling all his material from youtube. was on the chuck norris texas ranger show - saw a couple of those with her in it years ago. was on that soap just recently - last air date very nearly a year ago. well, i'll always think of her in the fame tv role.
apparently it's been revealed just who carly simon is singing about in her vain song - david geffen, billionaire gay entertainment mogul. or not. article i'm reading says it's not true...new version of the classic seventies hit on carly's new album, and rumors were geffen's name appears whispered backwards...reports are carly wrote the song because she wasn't happy with how geffen promoted joni mitchell more than her in the early seventies...so the mystery continues. regardless, irregardless, a really great song. mick jagger background vocals. fantastic triple rhyme of "yacht/apricot/gavotte", never before done in the history of lyrics.
just got the "new arrivals" e-list from aquarius records, up there on valencia. wanting to at least glance over the titles and artists - non-mainstream stuff, for the most part, that i'm pretty weak on. doesn't take much effort to scan through. but it's a BIG list...
recently looking up the history of coffehouses - idea i read a while back about how instrumental they were in various revolutions, social, economic, artistic. they provided a place other than church or home for people to meet. add that caffeine, and you've got folks buzzed and interacting, and not in a homely or churchy way. could lead to all sorts of thingies or other, nawmean? aight?
am studying this "14 moments that define a relationship" list - the first talk until dawn, first kiss, first time he introduces you as his girlfriend - those are the first three.
currently at the mechanics' library i'm taking an interest in fritz leiber's 1977 novel our lady of darkness - set in san fashionisco, occult themes. a lot of interesting material in it. not reading it cover to cover, but scanning pages for words, ideas, names. conjure wife is another by leiber, somewhat similar - witchy women stuff in it.
and i recommend the wikipedia entry for "magician". and sixties cult classic morning of the magicians.
nice piece with terry southern, called interview with a grand guy. from a book called backstory 3, featuring talks with sixties screenwriters. key phrase for this is "the write stuff", so that should help you find it if you want. and now dig this is the title of a southern collection - subtitled "the unspeakable writings".
looking up shannon lee, daughter of the little dragon - she performed on a cd called mechanical forces of love, by medicine, from 7 years ago. looks pretty good, i want it. she did some movie work for a while but has probably dropped out.
33 ways to get and attain motivation, by dragos - worth looking up online. "ignore the unimportant" is rule 1. 2 is "understand what makes you bored". each of these has a little explanatory note. good stuff.
looked up on wickedpedia the sixties bewitched tv series. i like the dr. bombay character. he's got his own entry - appeared in 18 episodes of the show. Witch doctor. darrin mostly regarded by the doctor "with little more than amused contempt." and: "bit of a square, isn't he?" used when darrin reacted in some way once - hippie/beatnik talk/swinger. bernard fox, who portrayed bombay, said to have been briefly on the 1999 soap opera passions, which reportedly had supernatural themes.
my odd fellow lodge brother l. suggested looking up "adult services" on craigslist, and i've been looking into that. looked at "casual encounters" first, and that proved interesting, but perhaps not what i was looking for - and l. subsequently dismissed that section. adult services used to be called "erotic services", but apparently there was some legal hassle related to prostitution suspicions online, so therefore the change. could give me someone - i mean, something - to do.
there's a long wickedpedia entry about high times magazine that some may like to look at. a compilation of articles from the countercult mag was one of the many books i looked at during the two months i was in los angeles last summer.
speaking of terry southern, red-dirt marijuana is the name of a short story collection. anything southern is fine with me. i think he wrote captions for some virgin book - virgin the company, i mean. but i haven't seen that.
charlize theron in mind - friend sent me an excel file with the over-a-thousand movies in his dvd collection, and aeon flux caught my eye - wanted to see that a while back, so now i have the opportunity. my first pick was sasha grey's the girlfriend experience, got that waiting to watch.
thought of the old you bet your life tv series - friend mentioned something about a "bet" in an e-mail, after i'd sent groucho marx quotes to him, so that got me to the wickedpedia for the radio and tv quiz show. it was before my time, but i knew about it. clips on youtube, i guess. something always about a "secret word", and a duck falling when it was said by a contestant, i think.
looking at the wickedpedia for shannon lee...turned 40 this past year, 41 in april...currently president of something called the bruce lee foundation. in some movie from ten years ago, did a cover of "i'm in the mood for love". written by jimmy mchugh, published in 1935. covered by dozens...including a '96 take by charlie watts.
